Today we are looking at the Bresser Hunter 8×40 binoculars in detail.
Review
Perhaps Bresser Hunter 8×40 is the best low-cost model for observations in low light
An 8× magnification with 40 mm lenses is optimal. At higher magnifications, it becomes difficult to keep the image steady without a tripod.
These binoculars use Porro prisms (BK-7 glass), as you can see in the photos by the characteristic “square” exit pupil. BK-7 is the most affordable optical glass, but it can still produce high-quality images. Chromatic aberration is minimal, and the image brightness is excellent. The lenses are fully coated, with a noticeable blue tint.

Bresser Hunter binoculars are designed for hunters, bird watchers, and all nature lovers. They are affordable and ideal for everyday use. The models feature a classic Porro prism design, a wide field of view, and bright images.
The image brightness is impressive, allowing observation even at dusk or before dawn to catch rare glimpses of awakening wildlife. The twilight factor is 17.89. At a distance of 1,000 meters, the binoculars cover approximately 138 meters—a good range that makes it easier to track flying birds 🐦. The minimum focusing distance is 5 meters.
The focusing system is simple and central, with a diopter adjustment ring on the right eyepiece. The eyecups fold, making it easy to use the binoculars while wearing glasses. The binoculars are lightweight (674 grams) and suitable for handheld use, though a tripod is recommended for extended observing sessions. The body is fully covered in rubber, with ergonomic notches under the thumbs for added comfort.
In general, the device seems reliable and high-quality, a good binocular for birdwatching and hunt:

It’s true that traces of glue are visible on the edges of the lenses, and the rubber on the body isn’t perfectly applied, but this doesn’t affect performance—it’s purely an aesthetic issue.
The official website doesn’t provide any information about water resistance, so it’s best not to get the binoculars wet. Light rain might be okay, but it’s better not to take the risk. Besides, you might catch a cold sitting in the rain! It’s recommended to cover the optics with the included caps (two for the eyepieces and two for the objective lenses) and store the binoculars in their case. Also, avoid leaving the fabric case in the rain.
By the way, the Bresser Hunter 8×40 binoculars are suitable for Moon observation as well. Thanks to the wide field of view, the entire Moon fits in the frame, and the 8× magnification allows you to see large craters and valleys. One thing to keep in mind: the image will be very, very bright.
